It was a perfect day for a race. 18 May 2008 has been on the calender for months as race day for the Marine Corps Historic Half Marathon. The entire event was done by the Marine Corps Marathon Team (hence the sign). Training was okay, nothing spectacular but I made to the finish line when it was go time, 13.1 miles in 2:23. I didn't break any land speed records but I had a great time. The race was open to over 5000 runners, by far my largest race. The organization was excellent. The race started on time with plenty of support throughout the course. The first 3 miles were all down hill (that was my favorite part) and then it flattened out through a tour of downtown Fredericksburg. The city residents really came out to support the race. The streets were lined up with cheering fans. About mile 10 I hit the wall. Mile 10 was also the big hill back to the start / finish line. I finished strong with Mark Stratton right on my heels. Can't wait for next year.

Thanks Again for motivating me to do the race. I do not recall being right on your heels though:)
Doing the race prepared me for the assignment in Panjshir Afghanistan -- last week I road a horse and hiked into a litle village named Aryu which sits between 10,500 - 10,700 feet in the mountains. Our lungs were working overtime! We are building an 8 room school there and must check on it every 2-3 weeks. All the best my friend,'
